Shopping

Economic development and a growing population are helping downtown Oakland resurface as a prime place to shop.  Shoppers will be pleased to discover that downtown Oakland is home to many local and national chains, as well as independent boutiques that offer one-of a kind finds.

In the heart of Oakland shoppers can find great independent  stores in and around Frank Ogawa Plaza and City Center Plaza. Downtown Oakland is also home to an abundance of commercial chains and small businesses.  Artisans and kiosk also populate the two plazas.  Every Friday from 10-4 Frank Ogawa plaza hosts an Oakland Artisan marketplace.

Just West of Broadway, in Old Oakland, the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well.  The majority of the businesses in Old Oakland are locally owned and independently operated.
